When the news emerged of Thierry Henry‘s loan move back to Arsenal from the New York Red Bulls in January many believed the former Gunner was passed his best. But with over 226 goals for Arsenal in his first spell at the club, the Frenchman, whose likeness is carved in bronze outside the Emirates stadium, was greeted with open arms by the Arsenal faithful upon his return.
He made his return to the Arsenal at home in the FA Cup to Leeds United. Less than 15 minutes after coming on as a second half substitute, Henry, with less than 15 minutes remaining on the clock, ghosts behind the Leeds defence to latch onto the end of a superb pass by Alex Song and slot a perfect shot passed Leeds keeper Andrew Lonergan to the absolute delight of just about everyone at the Emirates. Even those of us at home who don’t support Arsenal couldn’t help but crack a smile. See Henry’s humble, post-match interview below to see just what it meant to him to score again in an Arsenal shirt.
